5c Red Brown, Crack in "T" Variety (1 var). Position 69R, large margins, deep rich color and worn-plate impression, red grid cancel leaves the plate crack from "T" of "Post" to top of design clearly visible
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A BEAUTIFUL LARGE-MARGINED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE CRACK IN "T" PLATE FLAW ON THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE.
The Crack in "T" plate flaw was first reported by Wade Saadi in the May 1994 Chronicle. Ex Wagshal. With 2010 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large margins to clear, warm shade and worn-plate impression complemented by well-struck blue "Way 6" in double-circle with fleurons waterway handstamp of Mobile Ala., small thin spot at top and light vertical crease, Very Fine strike of this extremely rare waterway marking (Simpson-Alexander Rarity 9), Power Search lists only two others on the 1847 Issue (both 5c off-cover and ex Gross), ex Gorham, with 2015 P.F. certificate

Huge margins to just shaving frameline at top, attractive dark shade and intermediate impression, blue Herringbone cancel (not the Binghamton device), trace of toning in left margin and light vertical crease at bottom left, Fine appearing stamp and a choice strike of this rare cancel, ex Stollnitz, Saadi, Gross and Gorham, with 1996 and 2013 P.F. certificates mentioning only the light crease

Position 47L, full margins except close at top, clear St. Johnsbury Vt. red Scarab fancy cancel, light corner and vertical creases, slight toning at top edge, Very Fine appearing stamp and a choice nearly complete strike of this desirable fancy cancel, ex Stollnitz, Saadi, Gross and Gorham, with 1996 and 2013 P.F. certificates
10c Black, Reproduction (4). Without gum as issued, large to ample margins, intense shade, light creases, sealed pinhole, Very Fine appearance, with 2024 P.S.E. certificate
10c Green, Ty. II (14). Full to large margins with interpane margin and centerline at right, San Francisco datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine, with 1986 P.F. certificate
10c Green, Ty. II (14). With top sheet margin, other sides large to full, deep rich color, lightly cancelled, red backstamp barely shows through, otherwise Extremely Fine and striking, with 1991 P.F. certificate
12c Black (17). Unused (regummed), ample even margins, small tear at bottom and tiny natural inclusion, otherwise Very Fine, with 2024 P.F. certificate

Positions 87-88/97-98R1, block of four, full margins to just in at top, intense shade, each stamp with magenta manuscript cross-hatch cancel, small tear at top left and minor wrinkling, tiny scissors-cut between two right stamps, overall Fine used block, Scott value $5,500.00 as handstamped block

Positions 44-45R1, horizontal pair, large margins to just in at top right, cancelled by double-struck red "6" handstamp for credit to Great Britain, right stamp small thin spot, Very Fine appearance, ex Allen, Scott value $625.00 with premium red numeral, but the "6" struck even once is very unusual

Coat of Arms oval handstamp, red "London Paid NO 5" circular datestamp, Very Fine and exceedingly rare use of the 12c 1851 Issue with the Post Office Victoria oval, this is what survives from what must have been a truly spectacular Vancouver Island cover, Allen records only this piece with the 12c 1851 and Victoria oval
