Louisa Catherine Adams. Free frank "L C Adams" on small cover to Samuel Earl in Boston, red "Free Washington D.C. Apr. 15" circular datestamp, some slight toning, otherwise Very Fine, Louisa Catherine Adams—widow of John Quincy Adams and the first First Lady who was not born in the United States—was granted the franking privilege on March 9, 1848, and it lasted until her death on May 15, 1852
George Clymer. Signer of the Declaration of Independence, signature on handwritten promissory note dated May 30, 1800, with 30c New Jersey (RM140) embossed revenue stamp, easily discernible impression at top left, horizontal file fold affects embossing, cut cancel affects signature, still Very Fine and scarce, only eight are recorded in the Combs survey, ex Antizzo, Scott value $750 without premium for the signature
Herbert Hoover. Autograph as President on cacheted cover for commemoration of remodeling of Lincoln's tomb in Springfield Ill., with pair of 3c Lincoln stamps tied by "Springfield Ill. Jun. 17 8AM 1931" machine cancel, addressed to Chicago Ill., with "Missent to Chalco" handstamp, additional cachets on back, Very Fine autograph as President
James Monroe. Free frank "Jas Monroe" as Secretary of State on folded cover to New York, brown "Wash. City Oct. 8" (1814) circular datestamp with matching "FREE" handstamp, receipt docketing on back, vertical file folds, Very Fine
Theodore Roosevelt. Signature on back of card written in another hand on card with printed "United States Civil Service Commission, Washington D.C." and dated Dec. 6, 1889,
Winfield Scott. U.S. General, presidential candidate, first commander of the Union forces in Civil War, free frank as Maj. General "Free Winfield Scott Major Genl., &c &c." at top right of cover to Charles King in Elizabethtown N.J., red "Washington Railroad Oct. 4" route agent's circular datestamp, slightly reduced at right and some edgewear, Very Fine, probably used around 1850, ex Dr. Robertson

Modern Autographs. 16 items, including few of Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter, Gerald Ford, one with Barry Goldwater and Hubert Humphrey with others, two with Edith Wilson handstamps, also a Helen Taft, a few may be autopen but others appear to be actual autographs, Very Fine group
