FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE I PERFORATED ISSUE.
Type I characteristics are only found on the 20 stamps that comprise the bottom row of the plate. Due to narrow spacing on the plate and difficulties in aligning the perforating machine, stamps at the bottom of the plate usually have perforations cutting into the bottom portion of the design.
10c Green, Ty. II (32). Disturbed original gum, h.r. intense shade and impression, Very Fine, a scarce original-gum example of this issue, two backstamps
10c Green, Ty. IV (34). Position 64L1, recut at top and bottom, the scarcest and most desirable of the recut types, disturbed original gum, perfs trimmed at left, slight diagonal crease at bottom right, light corner crease
FINE APPEARANCE. THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE IV IS ONE OF THE RAREST CLASSIC UNITED STATES ISSUES IN UNUSED CONDITION. the position 64l1 double recut adds to its rarity.
The 1857 10c Type IV stamps come from only eight positions scattered throughout Plate 1, that have the top, bottom, or in the case of Position 64L (the stamp offered here), both lines recut. 64L1 is the only position to show both lines recut and as such it is the best example of the type. Only 4% of all 10c Plate 1 stamps produced were Type IV's, and an even smaller percentage were issued with perforations. We have only offered three others with any gum whatsoever in the past 20 years, and only one of these was Position 64L1. It had similar centering to the example offered here and was described as "traces of gum".

Aside from five Mint N.H. stamps contained in the block of twelve offered in our "Sevenoaks" sale (Sale 831) and one single contained in another block of twelve offered in our 2010 Rarities sale, we have offered only five others in Mint N.H. condition since keeping computerized records.

EXTREMELY FINE. A GORGEOUS EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1857 REPRINT, IN THE FINEST CONDITION.
The narrow spaces between stamps on the 12c 1857 Reprint plate allowed almost no room for large 12-gauge perforations, and the Reprints were generally perforated into parts of the design. Only 489 were sold, and examples such as this, with the frame lines complete on all four sides, are extremely rare.
With 2023 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90). Only one grades higher (at 90J) and only four others share this grade.
