1c Buff (112). Brilliant color and unusually choice centering, cancelled by neat strike of purple grid cancel, fresh and Extremely Fine, this value is very scarce with a purple cancel, ex Saadi, Eubanks and Morton, with 2011 P.F. certificate
2c Brown, Without Grill (113b). Original gum, rich color, attractive centering and margins
VERY FINE. A RARE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITHOUT GRILL.
We have offered about a dozen singles, plus a rejoined block of four, since 1993. Most examples of this stamp are significantly off center, with perfs in on one side.

2c Brown, Without Grill (113b). Original gum, fresh, deep rich color, centered to bottom, Very Good, a rare example of the 2c 1869 Pictorial Issue without grill, this is notoriously difficult to find with any decent centering, with 2004 P.F. certificate
2c Brown, 3c Ultramarine (113, 114). Group of six stamps collected for cancels, five are No. 114 and a single No. 113 with Japanese "X" chop cancel, four of the 3c stamps also have cancels similar to the Japanese chops but we do not believe they are (despite three accompanying P.S.A.G. certificates stating Japanese chops), finally No. 114 on a piece with negative 6-Point Star with matching negative "SAM F LOW" in circle handstamp, (Skinner-Eno LC-NP 18), crudely carved presumably with postmaster's name, stamp with tear at right, otherwise Very Fine and rare cancel, ex Wunsch
3c Ultramarine (114). Mint N.H., bright color and choice centering, Extremely Fine, with 1985 P.F. and 2023 P.S.E. certificates, Scott value as hinged
3c Ultramarine (114). Massive margins all around including left interpane margin with arrow, captured portion of adjoining stamp at right, deep rich color, grid cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, an astonishing used 3c 1869 Pictorial, while this may not lend itself to pure numerical grading, one would be hard pressed to find a larger example, with 1985 and 2018 P.F. certificates
3c Ultramarine, Split Grill (114 var). Mint N.H., crisp impression on bright paper, unusually choice centering, Extremely Fine, with 2002 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90), SMQ as normal with no premium for the variety

12c Green (117). Precise centering, deep rich color, cork cancel struck at bottom leaving the Adriatic vignette unobscured, Extremely Fine Gem, ex Myerson, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95)

Bottom selvage with "(N)o. 23" plate number in blue, original gum, barest trace of what may be hinging, centered to bottom right, Fine, a rare example of the 15c Type II 1869 Pictorial Issue with plate number, only three multiples with plate number are recorded in the Chapin census, Scott value with no premium for the plate number position

Two of the used copies are in institutions — the Tapling Collection at The British Library and the Miller Collection at The New York Public Library.

VERY FINE AND RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITHOUT GRILL.
Our informal survey of auction catalogues and the records of The Philatelic Foundation produced approximately 24 copies. Many have part original gum or disturbed original gum, and over half have faults. This sound original-gum example is very desirable.

With the reclassification of certain copies of Scott 121a as the 30c 1869 double-paper essay, the rarity of stamps that will receive current certificates as Scott 121a has increased significantly. This stamp shows the sharper impression of Scott 121a on normal paper.
