The Curtis Collection website records six horizontal pairs. This is the first we have offered since our 1996 Rarities sale, when we offered this exact pair. Ex Colonel Green and Floyd. With 2001 P.F. certificate.

Most pairs tend to be cut in or defective. The last four-margin pair we offered was in 2015, and prior to that the last was offered in our 2000 Zoellner sale.

Only five blocks are recorded at The Curtis Collection website, including three sheets of eight, a block of six and this block of four.

$200.00 U.S.I.R., Green & Red, Imperforate (R102a). Large margins to barely touched at upper right, used with horizontal pair of 50c U.S.I.R., Green, Perforated (R101c), each cancelled by July 22, 1865 manuscript cancels on quit claim deed from Rhode Island in the amount of $322,500 for the Putnam Manufacturing Company including real estate, mill, a store, other buildings and water power, the document mentions two outstanding mortgages which adjusts the sale price to $300,000 which is paid by the $300 in stamps

VERY FINE. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED DOCUMENTS WITH THE $200.00 U.S.I.R. IMPERFORATE FIRST ISSUE REVENUE.

One of the great rarities of the issue. Scott value $2,500 as stamp without premium for use on document.
