EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 4-CENT HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 354, GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. — THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
From our 2007 Rarities sale and ex Curtis and Field. With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, Superb 98). This is the only guide line pair in any gum condition to receive a Superb 98 grade. The P.S.E. Population Report lists the next highest grade as XF 90 Jumbo (one line pair at that grade).

This stamp and the example offered in our Sale 824 (lot 302) were the top stamps in a block of four. With copy of 1992 P.F. certificate for the block.
15c Pale Ultramarine, Bluish (366). Original gum, bright color, some light perf toning and toned speck on Washington's forehead, otherwise Very Fine, with 2024 P.S.E. certificate
1c Green, 1910, 1916 Imperforates (383, 481). Complete Mint N.H. sheets of 400, No. 383 plate no. 5485, No. 462 plate no. 7757, small margin wrinkles and tears to be expected, Very Fine and scarce as complete sheets, Scott value $3,780.80 as plate blocks and singles

2c Carmine, Coil (388). Mint N.H. pair with 3mm spacing, brilliant color, centered to top right but margins clear, tiny speck of blue ink in top left margin is not mentioned on accompanying certificate
FINE AND RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED PAIR OF THE 1910 2-CENT PERF 12 SINGLE-LINE WATERMARK HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 388.
This 2c coil was in production for only a short period of time before being superseded by the Perf 8½ issue. Due to the greater popularity of the horizontal coils with users, combined with a wary attitude by many collectors that early coils were simply trimmed stamps, many were used and few preserved.
With clear 1988 P.F. certificate.
2c Carmine, Coil (388). Pair with 3mm spacing, original gum, right stamp barely hinged and with purple Mekeel backstamp, left stamp h.r., brilliant color
FRESH AND FINE ORIGINAL-GUM PAIR OF THE SCARCE 1910 2-CENT HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 388.
This 2c coil was in production for only a short period of time before being superseded by the Perf 8½ issue. EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SPECTACULAR MINT NEVER-HINGED GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 3-CENT 1911 HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 394, GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E.
Ex Laehder and "Sacramento". With 1990 P.F. (for strip of four) and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98). Only one guide line pair grades higher (at 100) and no others share this lofty 98 grade.
