3c Plate 1L Experimental Orange Brown, Ty. II (11A var). 13 stamps including eleven singles and one pair, each on Dr. Amonette's sheet with position and comments about the color, all are Plate 1L Experimental Orange Brown and the comments indicate a range of shades depending on the time (late 1851 and early 1852), included are examples with interpane margin and centerline, straddle-pane margin, all with handstamp cancels except one, a small fault or two might be found but Dr. Amonette was generally careful about noting condition on his sheets and no faults are indicated by him here, Fine-Very Fine, a desirable group verified by Dr. Amonette

Positions 76-77R1L, horizontal pair, vivid color, neat "Lexington (Ky.) 6 Sep" (1852) circular datestamp, large margins to clear at bottom right, fresh and Very Fine, we have encountered other pairs of the Experimental Orange Brown from Lexington during this same week, Scott value as singles
3c Plate 1L Experimental Orange Brown, Ty. II (11A var). Five covers from late 1851 or early 1852, each Plate 1L with Experimental Orange Brown shade, includes a lovely New Orleans red circular datestamp, others from New York including quite bold strikes, Very Fine small group of these better Plate 1L shades, accompanied by Dr. Amonette's notes on positions and color comments

Four covers, first three vivid Plate 1L Orange Browns, two used from New York in October 1851 and February 1852, large to clear margins and Very Fine, one signed by Dr. Amonette, third used from Lancaster Pa. in May 1852, with blue grid and circular datestamp on folded bank notice, stamp with single line recut in upper left triangle, some paper splitting along folds, otherwise Very Fine, fourth cover used from New York in November 1851, Wagshal called it Orange Brown, but we think the color is not quite to the depth of the others, still Very Fine, all ex Wagshal, Scott value for three covers is $2,100

VERY FINE. A SPECTACULAR AND RARE COLOR FOR THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE — RIDGWAY'S DRAGON'S BLOOD RED.
Of all the various shades of the 3c 1851 Issue, this is one of the most distinct. This stamp is accompanied by a Dr. Amonette signed card certifying the position and shade with the comment "Very Fine example of Dr. Chases 'Dragons Blood red' of Ridgway. The rarest of all colors from this issue. This 99R5L matches this color in Dr. Chases Master Chart." The final Dr. Chase Master Color Chart, which has been owned by Dr. Amonette or his estate since 1960, is offered in lot 214. It contains two examples of the Dragon's Blood Red and this does indeed match well to those.

FINE AND RARE COLOR FOR THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE — RIDGWAY'S DRAGON'S BLOOD RED.
Of all the various shades of the 3c 1851 Issue, this is one of the most distinct. This is accompanied by a Dr. Amonette signed card and a slip certifying the position and shade. The card calls this the alternate name "Pigeon Blood Red of Ridgway" while the slip states "VF...color is a deep shade of Ridgway's Dragon's Blood Red, a rare color." The final Dr. Chase Master Color Chart, which has been owned by Dr. Amonette or his estate since 1960, is offered in lot 214. It contains two examples of the Dragon's Blood Red and this does indeed match well to those, and is a slightly deeper shade than the stamp offered in the previous lot.
