Category — 1902-08 Issue (Scott 300-320Ad)
1c-$5.00 1902 Issue (300-315, 319-320). Complete unused set including the 5c imperforate and 2c Shield, mostly original gum but a couple regummed including the $5.00, bright colors throughout and centering is quite attractive, including four hinged graded stamps between XF 90 and XF-Superb 95 (total SMQ $410 for those four, see our website PDF), a couple small flaws but overall a Very Fine appearing set with some Extremely Fine
5c Blue (304). Mint N.H., intense shade, well-proportioned margins, Extremely Fine, with 2004 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90)
10c Pale Red Brown (307). Mint N.H. top imprint and plate no. 1592 block of 20, with left selvage showing plate printers' initials and half-arrow at right, representing the entire top two rows of the left pane, gorgeous color and exceptional centering — particularly for such a large multiple
EXTREMELY FINE GEM MINT NEVER-HINGED LARGE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 10-CENT 1902 ISSUE IN THE FINEST CONDITION. THIS ISSUE IS RARE AS A MINT NEVER-HINGED TOP PLATE BLOCK. THIS PIECE, REPRESENTING THE ENTIRE TOP TWO ROWS OF THE LEFT PANE IS EXTRAORDINARY.
A Power Search review failed to locate another offering of a Mint N.H. plate block of Scott 307 from the top position since we sold a block of six in our 2003 sale of the "Silver Lake" collection. Even in hinged condition we have offered only one other top plate block since 1993. This large plate block from the left pane is truly exceptional.
Scott value as plate block of six (from any position) and 14 singles does not convey the rarity of this piece.
13c Purple Black (308). Mint N.H., warm shade, wide and balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 1989 and 2015 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95)
15c Olive Green (309). Block of four, bottom stamps Mint N.H., top stamps h.r., rich color, Very Fine, Scott value as singles
50c Orange (310). Mint N.H., brilliant color on white paper, well-balanced margins
EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 50-CENT 1902 ISSUE.
With 2004 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90). Only nine grade higher.
50c Orange (310). Original gum, radiant color, wide margins, fresh and Extremely Fine, with 1996 P.F. certificate
50c Orange (310). Block of four, original gum, top stamps h.r., vibrant color, Very Fine-Extremely Fine
$1.00 Black (311). Original gum, barely hinged, intense shade, Very Fine, with 2008 P.F. certificate
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Mint N.H. with right part imprint sheet margin, huge margins other sides, deep rich color
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB PART IMPRINT MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1908 5-CENT BLUE IMPERFORATE ISSUE, GRADED GEM 100 BY P.S.E.
Unlike the more common 1c imperforate (Scott 314), a Mint N.H. plate block of which catalogues $325, the supply of 5c multiples that could be cut apart to make high grade singles has always been small.
With 2021 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only three others.
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). With plate no. 4075 in wide right sheet margin, original gum, lightly hinged, full margins other sides, Very Fine and choice
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Pair, original gum, lightly hinged, large margins all around, rich color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2002 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95)
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Mint N.H. block of four with vertical centerline, deep rich color, large even margins to full at lower right, fresh and Very Fine position block, Scott value as normal block
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Block of four, original gum, h.r., large margins, rich color, Extremely Fine
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Block of four, original gum, h.r., large margins to full, Very Fine and choice
2c Carmine Rose, Ty. II (319Fj). Mint N.H., wide margins and beautifully centered, Extremely Fine, with 2002 and 2011 P.S.E. certificates as the old No. 319j (XF 90)
2c Carmine, Ty. I, Imperforate (320). Mint N.H., Jumbo margins with portions of all adjoining stamps, bright color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in this grade, SMQ $400 as Gem 100)
2c Carmine, Ty. II, Schermack Ty. III (320Ad, formerly 320d). Guide line pair, full Schermack Ty. III perforations as with all known examples, duplex cancel, top left edge nicked and couple small creases, otherwise Fine-Very Fine and rare with only a few known used, the Scott Catalogue notes that "No. 320Ad was issued imperforate, but all examples were privately perforated with large oblong perforations at the sides (Schermack Type III)", in this respect it is similar to its more famous and expensive counterparts, Scott 314A and 482A, accompanied by sales card from the Richard Champagne stock with his "Genuine, RAC" notation, Scott value $6,000
