Blocks of four, original gum, h.r., Very Fine set of blocks, each with backstamp, in December 1914, the Kansas City post office had an oversupply of imperforate stamps, originally intended for vending machines, the supply of stamps was rouletted with women's dressmaking tracing wheels, and official approval for their release was given by Washington, accompanied by notarized affidavit confirming Charles Spaythe bought these over the counter at the post office in Kansas City Mo. in Dec. 1914

Two complete panes of 100 of Scott 476A have been certified by The Philatelic Foundation and subsequently broken up into singles, blocks and four plate blocks. Many are off center.

VERY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM JOINT LINE PAIR OF THE 2-CENT TYPE II ROTARY PRESS UNWATERMARKED HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 491.
Unlike most other issues, the horizontal coil is actually scarcer than the vertical coil. It was in production for only a short period of time before being replaced by the Type III, Scott 492.

5c Blue, Coil, Small Holes (496a). Mint N.H. joint line pair, deep rich color, wide and balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, according to a footnote in Scott, the small holes variety came about due to a switch from 384-subject plates to 432-subject plates, the perf hole size difference is very subtle but most apparent on pairs, with 2017 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $900), this is the highest grade the P.S.E. has given to a line pair of No. 496a, and shared by just one other

FINE. A SCARCE MINT NEVER-HINGED PANE OF THE 2-CENT A.E.F. BOOKLET PANE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT NO MORE THAN 20 EXIST IN ANY CONDITION. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD MINT NEVER-HINGED PANE WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.
The A.E.F. booklet panes were issued in September 1917, primarily for use by the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I. Only 3,000 panes were prepared of both the 1c and 2c denominations. By October they were no longer needed, as Congress voted to allow mail to be sent free of charge by active members of the Armed Forces. Many of the panes were destroyed. Very few are known in Mint N.H. condition. With 1969 P.F. certificate.

VERY FINE. A RARE BLOCK OF THE 3-CENT 1917 VERTICAL PAIR, IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY.
We have encountered only two other multiples larger than a pair of Scott 501c since keeping computerized records 30 years ago and in our Rarities sales since 1964. One is a block of four from an internal position on the sheet. The other is a block of four with plate number.
Signed "S.A." in pencil (Spencer Anderson). Scott value as two pairs.

VERY FINE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE $1.00 1917 ISSUE IN THE DEEP BROWN SHADE. A DIFFICULT STAMP TO OBTAIN WITH ANY SEMBLENCE OF DECENT CENTERING.
According to Johl, a small number of stamps were printed in this distinctive shade early in the issue of the 1917 $1.00 stamp. During the course of the six years that the stamp was issued, all other printings were executed in the normal shade.
