15c Brown & Blue, Ty. II (119). Horizontal pair, tied by "Springfield Ill. Mar. 8" circular datestamp on small yellow piece, each stamp with large "E" letter cancel, Very Fine, the bicolored 1869 Pictorial stamps are rarely seen with fancy cancels, with 2002 P.F. certificate
15c Brown & Blue, Ty. II, Center Inverted (119b). Bright colors, attractive centering for this difficult invert with a nearly face-free cork cancel, faint creases at top left
FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT, WITH A CANCEL THAT LEAVES THE LANDING OF COLUMBUS VIGNETTE COMPLETELY UNOBSCURED.
Our census of Scott 119b at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/119b, records three unused and 104 used copies (there are an additional three used examples of Scott 119c). Two of the used copies are in institutions — the Tapling Collection at The British Library and the Miller Collection at The New York Public Library. Only 13 are confirmed as sound. An additional nine have not been seen in many years so their condition is unknown, but most have poor centering. The 15c is at least as difficult to find in sound condition as the more expensive 24c and 30c inverts.
Census no. 119b-CAN-51. Ex Walske. With 1982 P.F. certificate.
(Image Magnifier)24c Green & Violet, Center Inverted (120b). Deep rich colors, rosette cancel leaves design clearly visible, faint corner crease at bottom left is difficult to detect
FINE. A RARE ESSENTIALLY SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT.
Our census of 24c 1869 Inverts, available at our website at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/120b, contains four unused, 83 used singles, one used pair, one on cover and the unique block of four, for a total of 94 copies of the perforated 24c Invert. Only 16 are confirmed sound and nine others have old records and need to be checked for condition. This example is listed under the examples with faults, but the faint crease is barely detectable.
Census No. 120b-CAN-10. With 2004 P.S.E. certificate.

30c Ultramarine & Carmine, Without Grill (121a). Original gum, h.r., deep rich colors, wide margins
VERY FINE AND CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITHOUT GRILL.
With the reclassification of certain copies of Scott 121a as the 30c 1869 double-paper essay, the rarity of stamps that will receive current certificates as Scott 121a has increased significantly. This stamp shows the sharper impression of Scott 121a on normal paper.
