Sound, centered, original-gum examples of high-denomination Newspapers & Periodicals stamps printed by the Continental Bank Note Co. are incredibly rare. A search of several collections containing superb offerings of these issues, such as Lutwak, Cole, Lyons, Floyd and Lessin, has failed to find its equal. We have offered only one in comparable condition, which is ex Drucker and Inman.
Ex "Vineyard" and "Hope" collections. With 1988, 2002 and 2022 P.F. certificates (latter VF-XF 85). By way of comparison, P.S.E. has graded only one original gum PR26 — at 50. SCV $4,250.

Every other stamp either has a fault or only Fine centering.

The high-value 1875 Issue stamps are among the most difficult of all Newspapers & Periodicals to obtain in sound original-gum condition with any degree of choice centering. This example of the $48.00 is particularly striking with wider margins than any others we have offered.
Ex "Hope" collection. With 2000 P.S.E., 2001 and 2022 P.F. certificates (latter XF 90). By way of comparison, P.S.E. has graded only two original gum PR31 stamps — at 20 and 30. SCV $7,500.

EXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1894 24-CENT UNWATERMARKED BUREAU NEWSPAPER ISSUE, GRADED VF-XF 85 BY THE PHILATELIC FOUNDATION.
The 1894 Bureau printing was made from the old plates of the American and Continental Bank Note Companies. The plates were re-entered, and there are also other differences in the printings, including the paper and gum. This issue was not in service for very long before the new plates were ready for the Bureau-produced issue of 1895. The high-denomination 1894 issues are rare and often plagued with poor centering and faults. This sound and centered example is a wonderful exception.
Ex "Hope" collection. With 2001 and 2022 P.F. certificates (latter VF-XF 85). By way of comparison, P.S.E. has graded only three original gum examples of Scott PR96, at 20, 30 and 40. SCV $3,750.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 50-CENT 1895 UNWATERMARKED NEWSPAPER ISSUE. PROBABLY THE FINEST EXAMPLE EXTANT—THE ONLY ONE GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E.
This is the only Mint N.H. example of this rare stamp graded XF-Superb 95 by Professional Stamp Experts. In fact, it is the only Mint N.H. Scott PR107 certified by P.S.E. The highest grade below this 95 is one hinged stamp graded 90 (followed by one at 75). The SMQ values stop at $8,000 for a Mint N.H. 90, but there is no such stamp in the Population Report.
