Positions 27-29, horizontal strip of three, huge margins top and bottom, full at sides except one ornament touched at right, rich color, bold strikes of "New Orleans La. 7 Feb." (1862) circular datestamp, we mentioned a small shallow thin in a 2013 auction description, but perhaps we were being overly conservative as it is not at all obvious and also not mentioned on the P.F. certificate obtained after that sale (with our descriptions known to the P.F.), Very Fine, a choice and scarce strip used at New Orleans ten weeks before Federal occupation, ex Hastings, with 2013 P.F. certificate
10c Blue, Paterson (2). Vivid color that "pops" off the paper, huge margins, bold Nov. 12, 1862 circular datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2013 P.F. certificate
10c Dark Blue, Hoyer & Ludwig (2b). Large even margins, deep rich color, face-free town cancel, Extremely Fine, a lovely stamp, with 1984 and 2007 P.F. certificates (XF 90), SCV $275
2c Deep Green (3). Ample to large margins, "(P)AID" cancel, strong color, couple tiny toned spots not mentioned on certificate, still Very Fine, ex Hall, SCV as normal cancel
5c Dark Blue, Stone 2 (4a). Large even margins, wonderful depth of color, unobtrusive circular datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine, with 2011 P.F. certificate (XF 90), SCV $175
10c Rose (5). Large to huge margins especially at top and bottom, choice strike of blue Columbia S.C. circular datestamp, Extremely Fine, a beautiful stamp, with 2007 P.F. certificate
10c Rose (5). Position 45, bottom sheet margin with "(L)ITH. 10c Carmine Rose (5 var). Exceptional color which is close to if not quite Carmine, certified as Carmine Rose, full to large margins all around, unobtrusive circular datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine, with 1993 P.F. certificate
10c Rose, Sperati Reproduction (5 var). Massive margins, "cancelled" by Mobile Ala. double-circle datestamp, Extremely Fine and scarce Sperati reproduction for the 10c Rose, we have not encountered one before with a "cancel", signed on back by Sperati, with 2006 P.F. certificate
5c Light Blue, De La Rue (6). Block of four, full to large margins all around, four strikes of target cancel, Extremely Fine, used blocks are scarce despite the modest catalogue value, especially in this choice condition, with 2013 and 2014 P.F. certificates
5c Blue, Local (7). Bright color, large margins, clear strike of green "(Salt)ville Va." circular datestamp, Extremely Fine, ex Hastings, with 2013 P.F. certificate
2c Brown Red (8). Large to ample margins, blue circular datestamp cancel, Very Fine and choice, with 1997 P.F. certificate
10c Blue, "TEN" (9). Block of four, original gum, h.r. along left edge, large margins to just touched at top right, very slightly oxidized, few faint toned spots

10c Milky Blue, "TEN" (9a). Huge to massive margins all around, pretty pastel shade, perfect strike of 7-bar grid cancel, small thin spot in top margin not mentioned on accompanying certificate, Extremely Fine Gem appearance, ex Hall (as No. 9), with clear 2009 P.F. certificate
10c Blue, Frameline (10). Large margins showing virtually complete framelines on three sides and part of bottom frameline, clear strike of circular datestamp
EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES 10-CENT FRAMELINE ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E.
The defining characteristic of Scott 10 is the frameline between the stamps. The lines were engraved on the plate and served as a guide for the siderographer when aligning the transfers to make the plate. Each stamp shares framelines with the adjoining positions, so four-frameline copies are exceedingly rare.
Ex "Hanover". With 2013 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95). For some reason SMQ no longer prices this in the 95 grade. When we last offered this stamp in our Sale 1151 in 2017, the SMQ price was $8,250, which we are using here. SCV $2,750.
10c Blue, Die A (11). Massive margins all around including bottom sheet margin with "Bank Note" portion of imprint, circular datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb used example, with 2013 P.F. certificate
10c Milky Blue, Die A (11a). Huge to massive margins, bright color, tied to small buff piece by bold complete strike of "Oxford N.C. Jul. 25" circular datestamp, Extremely Fine Gem, Oxford is known for roulette separations, including at sides and not at top and bottom (see lot 2893), while this stamp is clearly scissors-separated on three sides, the right side is rougher and could have possibly been a poor roulette, offered here simply on the merits of its Gem margin size
10c Milky Blue, Die A (11a). Large to huge margins, beautiful bright shade, "JACKS(ON)" Miss. straightline cancel, Extremely Fine, a lovely stamp and scarce with such a well-struck straightline, with 2013 P.F. certificate, Scott applies a $350 premium for a straightline cancel
10c Milky Blue, Die A (11a). Block of four, beautiful early color and impression, large margins except just touched at lower right, cancelled by large 6-bar grid in circle, Very Fine and choice block, ex Hall, with 2006 and 2013 P.F. certificates, unpriced in Scott as a block in this shade, SCV $350 for the normal shade (Scott prices a single of No. 11a at three-times that of No. 11, implying a price of $1,400 for a block)
10c Greenish Blue, Die A (11c). Massive margins all around, pretty pastel shade, lightly struck circular datestamp leaves the entire design completely visible, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb used stamp, with 2013 P.F. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo), how this is not a 98 Jumbo we do not understand, nonetheless this is the highest grade awarded, P.S.E. has only graded a single of No. 11c at VF 80
10c Greenish Blue, Die A (11c). Large margins to ample, bright shade, cancelled by diagonal "Montpe(lier Va.)" stencil straightline marking, the stamp is affixed to a card with the rest of the marking drawn in on the card for completeness, Very Fine and extremely rare, we have seen this stencil marking struck away from the stamp on a rebacked cover front (ex Dr. Brandon, Sale 1087, lot 382) but this is the first we have encountered on an actual stamp, illustrated in the C.S.A. Catalog (SL-10, $750, p. 377), with 2013 P.F. certificate which states "genuine", but declines opinion on the stamp's condition since it is affixed to a card
