Sep. 28" circular datestamp, beneath the red is a "U.S. Pkt." straightline handstamp, Very Fine and choice, a striking stamp, ex Wagshal, with 1984 P.F. certificate

Positions 8-9L4, horizontal pair, large margins to full, pretty shade, unobtrusive strikes of circular datestamp, left stamp small thin spot and corner crease at top left, Very Fine appearance, an attractive and scarce pair from the top row of Plate 4, showing the complete design at top, ex Neinken, Wagshal and Ambassador Middendorf, with 2010 P.F. certificate

Position 10R1L, recut twice at bottom, original gum, huge top right corner sheet margins, large bottom margin showing part of adjoining stamp, just barely in along left ornaments, dark shade, bright and fresh paper, light wrinkle in selvage not mentioned on certificate, Very Fine and choice, an outstanding original-gum example from this fascinating position, 10R on Plate 1 Early is listed in the Scott U.S. Specialized Catalogue under No. 7 as "Design complete at top (10R1E only)" with a value of $2,000 used (vs. $150 for the usual No. 7) and unpriced in unused condition, the stamp offered here is 10R on Plate 1 Late after recutting, this position also has the complete design at top but the Scott Catalogue does not list it in recut state, ex Hansen, with 2001 P.F. certificate
1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Unused (no gum), huge margins including top sheet margin and showing part of adjoining stamps at sides, lovely color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2024 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95)

Recut once at top and twice at bottom, huge margins to full including portion of adjoining stamp at left, rich color complemented by green Jackson Mich. circular datestamp cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2012 and 2017 P.F. certificates as a pair, this the left stamp, ex Morton, with 2018 P.F. certificate as this single (XF 90 XQ), the "XQ" stands for extraordinary quality
1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Position 84L1L, cancelled by partly clear strike of Louisville & Frankfort Railroad route agent's circular datestamp, Very Fine and rare, Simpson rarity 8, with 2020 P.F. certificate
1c 1851-57 Issue Balance. Six imperforate singles, one imperforate pair and two perforated singles, including Nos. 7 (4 singles and pair), 9, 20 and 24, last is gummed shaved proof, some faults, appear Fine
1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Complete reconstruction of Plate 1 Late, left and right panes, 200+ stamps in total including 23 pairs, 13 strips of three, an L-shaped block of three and a strip of four, a few duplicate positions, over 30 with partial or full sheet margin including two with part of imprint and about twelve with centerline, many three and four-margin examples, the majority with handstamped cancels (a few red and blue), some pen cancelled, minor faults to be expected in such a reconstruction but generally the condition is decent for a plating study, Scott value as all singles, without taking into consideration the various recuts, triple transfer/one inverted positions, multiples, colored cancels or other plate varieties exceeds $20,000
3c 1851 Issue, Dr. Wilbur F. Amonette Color Study (10-11A). Group of 68 used stamps arranged by year and hinged on eleven index cards, with typed labels for years and colors, showing a wonderful range, including ten Nos. 10/10A Orange Brown in different shades including a beautiful Copperish, two No. 11A Experimental Orange Brown, No. 11A in the rare Plum shade (neat N.Y. circular datestamp cancel), wide range of other shades for Nos. 11/11A, attractive stamps with a fair number of four-margined examples and neat cancels including a few in blue, possibly some small faults but the condition is overall good, the cards are not signed by Dr. Amonette, but the printing and format matches sets known to have been prepared by him
A FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL SHADE STUDY OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE BY DR. AMONETTE.
The late Dr. Amonette's shade identifications are the gold standard. However, this lot or any item in it may not be returned if an expert committee disagrees with the color identification. Scott value as just the basic stamps is $5,125.

EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1856 PINKISH SHADE. ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL 3-CENT SHADES.
The 3c comes in a remarkably wide range of shades, reflecting its widespread demand to pay the most common postal rate. Among the rarest shades is the Pinkish, which differs significantly from other shades.
