Strong color, blue "P" brushstroke cancel, typical faults including a couple small tears and corner repair at top left, Fine appearing and rare used example of this issue, the few genuinely used examples of this issue we have offered all have faults to varying degrees, only three others are listed in Power Search, ex Collier, with 2005 P.F. certificate
10c Dark Bluish Green, Newspaper, 1875 Special Printing (PR6 var). Large to huge margins, radiant color, small filled thin at top, Very Fine appearance, scarce, according to the Scott Catalogue, Continental Bank Note Co. made a second special printing from new plates, which did not have the colored border, they exist both perforated and imperforate, and were not regularly issued, signed Costales, with 1984 and 2005 P.F. certificates, Scott Retail as set of three values $3,750.00
5c Dark Blue, White Border (PR8). Without gum as issued, detailed impression, unusually choice centering, Extremely Fine, under-catalogued as we sold this stamp in 2012 for $1,500 against the same SMQ of $810, ex "Cloudrest", with 2006 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90)

Ex "Beverly Hills" and Schwenk. With 2014 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95). This is the only stamp to achieve this grade among just five examples in the P.S.E. Population Report.

FINE APPEARANCE. THE 36-CENT 1894 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL NEWSPAPERS & PERIODICALS STAMPS. ONLY NINE ARE AVAILABLE TO COLLECTORS AND NONE ARE SOUND. THIS VERY COLLECTIBLE EXAMPLE WITH ONLY A SMALL FAULT IS ONE OF THE FINEST.
Our census of PR97, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/PR97, contains ten unused examples, all with original gum, including one in the Miller collection owned by The New York Public Library. None are known used and none are sound — most have thin spots or creases. Seven have perfs touching the design on at least one side. This example was previously known to us only from an old black and white photo.

Our census of PR99, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/PR99, contains 12 unused and one used example of this rarity. Only three are confirmed as sound (one other needs to reexamined for condition). Seven have no gum or part gum.

Complete set of 12 with original envelope reading "One Set of Specimens of United States Postage Stamps, Newspaper and Periodical", original gum, a few with straight edge, a couple minor flaws but overall fresh and Fine-Very Fine set, scarce as only 125 were produced and particularly desirable with the envelope which is seldom encountered
