3c 1851 Issues, Dr. Wilbur F. Amonette Large Color Study (10-11A). Group of 105 used stamps arranged by year and hinged on 14 index cards, with typed labels for years and colors, showing a wonderful range, including 14 Nos. 10/10A Orange Brown in different shades including a beautiful Copperish pair, six Nos. 11A Experimental Orange Brown, No. 11A in the rare Plum shade, wide range of other shades and impressions for Nos. 11/11A, attractive stamps with a fair number of four-margin examples and neat cancels, possibly some small faults but the condition is overall good, one of the intro cards is signed on the back by Dr. Amonette (1999), the printing and format also matches sets known to have been prepared by him

A FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL SHADE STUDY OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE BY DR. AMONETTE — THIS SET IS ALSO LARGER THAN OTHERS WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

The late Dr. Amonette's shade identifications are the gold standard. However, this lot or any item in it may not be returned if an expert committee disagrees with the color identification. The last set we offered in our 2024 Rarities sale realized $6,500 hammer with fewer stamps than the set offered here.
