3c 1851 Issue, Dr. Wilbur F. Amonette Color Study (10-11A). Group of 71 used stamps arranged by year and hinged on eleven index cards, with typed labels for years and colors, showing a wonderful range, including a summary one one card by year at the beginning, nine Nos. 10/10A Orange Brown in different shades, three No. 11A Experimental Orange Brown in slightly different shades, No. 11A in the rare Plum shade (neat circular datestamp cancel), wide range of other shades for Nos. 11/11A, attractive stamps with a fair number of four-margined examples and neat cancels including a few in blue, possibly some small faults but the condition is overall good, the title card is signed by Dr. Amonette
A FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL SHADE STUDY OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE BY DR. AMONETTE.
The late Dr. Amonette's shade identifications are the gold standard. However, this lot or any item in it may not be returned if an expert committee disagrees with the color identification. Scott value as just the basic stamps is approximately $5,300.
3c 1851 Issue, Dr. Wilbur F. Amonette Color Study (10-11A). Group of 34 used stamps arranged by year and hinged on five index cards, with typed labels for years and colors, this study is smaller than the one offered in the previous lot but still shows the full range of colors, including five Nos. 10/10A Orange Brown in different shades, one No. 11A Experimental Orange Brown, No. 11A in the rare Plum shade (blue pen stroke cancel), wide range of other shades for Nos. 11/11A, attractive stamps with a fair number of four-margined examples and neat cancels including a few in blue, possibly some small faults but the condition is overall good, the last card is signed on back by Dr. Amonette, overall Fine-Very Fine and desirable shade study, the late Dr. Amonette's shade identifications are the gold standard, however, this lot or any item in it may not be returned if an expert committee disagrees with the color identification, Scott value as just the basic stamps exceeds $3,600
3c 1851 Issue, Color Study (10-11A). Approximately 75 stamps hinged onto album pages, the spaces for two pages are specially printed to show shades from the years 1851-57, study includes eleven No. 10-10A Orange Brown in different shades, one No. 11A Experimental Orange Brown, plus the full range of shades of Nos. 11-11A, almost all are handstamp cancelled, just a couple Orange Brown with pen cancel, many four-margined stamps are present, a few flaws to be found in any such study but overall the condition is good, Fine-Very Fine color study, some of this is ex Wilson Hulme, Scott value as just the basic stamps exceeds $2,800
3c Dull Red, Ty. I, II, Complete Calendar (11-11A). Complete calendar on 12 pages, headed 1856 but we cannot be sure all originate from that year, clear strikes of circular datestamps showing every date of the year (except no Feb. 29), range of colors, typical plating or calendar quality but many attractive and Very Fine appearing stamps are present, an impressive and desirable 3c 1851 issue calendar, just the basic stamps as all No. 11A catalogue $5,475
