FINE AND RARE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE 1859 2-CENT BLUE HAWAIIAN NUMERAL CANCELLED BY THE LAHAINA CUSTOMS HOUSE SEAL AND SHOWING AN UNUSUAL VARIETY.
This marking was used by Cornelius S. Bartow, the Lahaina postmaster, before he received cancelling devices ordered through the Honolulu post office. In a letter to the postmaster-general, he refers to this provisional cancellation: "Did you order a stamp for the department of this place? It seems to me to be very necessary, as I am now compelled to use the Custom House seal."

Album containing a wide range of items, including postcards of "Fishes of Hawaii, nice group of covers sent interisland, cover with "Damaged by fire on ship honolulu hawaii jul. 28 1953" three-line handstamp, precancels, few Hawaiian coins, some faults, few covers may not be genuine, overall appear Fine-Very Fine, a great group for the specialist

Just over 40 documents and 12 maps, including 1881 map of Oahu, Lanai 1878, colorful large map of Big Island (undated), Maui survey of 1885, 1901 Kauai, Honolulu sewer construction map from 1899-1900, the documents contain a range of issues, some faults, overall Fine-Very Fine, an interesting group for the specialist
