VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY EARLY COVER FROM THE PHILIPPINES TO THE UNITED STATES.
Samuel Green Arnold (1778-1826) was a prominent merchant residing in Providence, Rhode Island. This cover lacks content, but the receipt docketing confirms it originated in Manila in October 1818. This is most likely the ship that carried this cover, but that would indicate a delay from October 1818 to mid-January 1819 when the Saunders set sail.

We have not yet located that evidence. Our estimate is based purely on the Los Angeles-to-France elements of these covers.
