FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE COMPLETE SET OF THE 1857-60 ISSUE WITH CROSS-STROKE CONTROL MARKS. HIGHLY SUITABLE FOR EXHIBITION.
The magenta lines were applied in pen and ink to all values of the 1857-60 Issue at the same time, apparently while the stamps were still in sheets. They are very scarce. One explanation for their existence is that they were created for salesman's sample books.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 5-CENT ORANGE BROWN WITH A RED CANCEL, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY THE PHILATELIC FOUNDATION.
5c stamps in the Orange Brown shade (Scott 30) were printed from Plate 2 in 1861 (EDU is May 8). They were the last stamps of the 1857 Issue distributed before the U.S. Post Office Department demonetized all circulating stamps in August 1861, in order to prevent their use in the seceded states. Given the short period of time they could be used, the 5c Orange Brown (like the 90c) is very scarce in used condition. It is much more plentiful in unused condition due to leftover supplies found in Southern post offices after the Civil War.
With 2023 P.S.A.G. and 2025 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95).
10c Green, Ty. I (31). Bright color, gorgeous centering with wide and balanced margins, circular datestamp cancel
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 10-CENT PERFORATED TYPE I, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. — THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
Type I stamps only come from the 20 positions that comprise the bottom row of the plate. Due to narrow spacing on the plate and difficulties in aligning the perforating machine, stamps at the bottom of the plate usually have perforations cutting into the bottom portion of the design. This is a negative, because Type I is defined as having the design complete at bottom. The population of stamps showing the characteristic is extremely limited, especially when other factors such as soundness are taken into consideration.
Ex Gorham. With 2003 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95). This is the highest grade awarded and only six others share it.
10c Green, Ty. IV (34). Position 86L1, recut at top, unused (no gum), deep rich color and proof-like impression on brilliant paper, almost perfectly centered with wide and balanced margins and with design completely clear of perforations all around
EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE SOUND AND CENTERED UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE IV PERFORATED ISSUE. A GREAT RARITY OF THE CLASSIC ERA, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CHOICE CONDITION.
The 1857 10c Type IV stamps come from eight positions scattered throughout Plate 1 that have the top, bottom or both lines recut. Only 4% of all 10c Plate 1 stamps produced were Type IV, and an even smaller percentage were issued with perforations. Most are either faulty, off-center or both. This unused stamp with choice centering is outstanding.
Ex "Scarsdale". With 2026 P.S.E. certificate. 2000 P.S.E., 2002 P.F. and 2014 P.F. certificates no longer accompany (copy of 2014 P.F. certificate accompanies).
