EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 1868 5-CENT F GRILL.
As this block demonstrates, the 5c 1861-68 Issue was printed from plates with closely-spaced subjects that left little room for the large 12-gauge perforations. In this instance, the perforations were applied almost exactly within the narrow spaces between the stamps.
With 2015 P.S.E. certificate (DOG, F 70) describing the gum as "slightly disturbed". SCV $17,000.
24c Gray Lilac, F. Grill (99). Rich color, neat strike of quartered cork cancel, unusually choice centering

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL WIDE-MARGINED UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 30-CENT F GRILL.
For the U.S. Classics collector more concerned with margins and centering than with gum, this is the ideal example of the 30c F Grill.
Ex Gorham and Hall. With 1984, 2001 P.F. and 2018 P.S.E. certificates (VF 80). We feel this grade is very conservative for this choice stamp. Even so, just one unused stamp in any gum condition grades higher (at 90, no gum) and two others share this 80 grade (one each original gum and no gum).
30c Orange, F. Grill (100). Remarkable centering with wide margins, strong grill and rich color, neat and unusual cogwheel cancel (not the San Francisco type)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 30-CENT 1868 F GRILL IS EXTREMELY RARE WITH SUCH WIDE MARGINS. A PHENOMENAL STAMP.
The 30c 1861-68 Issue stamps—Scott 71 (to a lesser extent) and Scott 100 —rank as two of the most difficult classic U.S. stamps to find in such pristine condition. Due to narrow spacing of the plate, the 30c 1861-68s are usually found with tight margins, especially at sides. Brookman notes "Superb copies are almost non-existent".
Ex Haas, Dr. Morris, Bowman and "Clipper City". With 1982, 1992 and 2015 P.F. certificates (XF 90)
