Sale 1376, Lot 674, 1869 Pictorial Issue including Without Grill Varieties (Scott 112-122)

1c Buff (112). Original gum, rich color, perfect centering with wide margins, Extremely Fine, with 2000 P.F. certificate, with 1992 and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (OGh, XF 90), in our opinion, the grade is at least one level too low — look carefully at the distance between the printed design and the perforation holes on all four sides, and judge for yourself whether this deserves anything less than XF-Superb 95

24c Green & Violet (120). Original gum, lightly hinged, strong grill impression, rich colors on bright paper, choice centering

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. SCARCE IN THIS SUPERIOR GRADE.

The 24c 1869 Pictorial is readily available in original-gum condition. However, choice centering and sound paper are elusive qualities among examples of this issue. This stamp has color, centering and margins that appear more like its re-issue counterpart.

Ex "Silver Lake" and Hoffman. With 1982, 2002 and 2008 P.F. certificates.

90c Carmine & Black, Without Grill (122a). Part original gum which covers approximately half of the back, deep rich colors, choice centering

EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE SOUND AND SUPERBLY CENTERED EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITHOUT GRILL.

Our most recent review of the records of The Philatelic Foundation found 26 certified examples. Several have not been seen in some time and need to be reexamined. Only 14 have either part or full original gum and only eight of these original-gum stamps are certified as sound. This is one of the finest known with any amount of intact original gum.

Ex Coulter. With 1975 P.F. and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (latter states "small part o.g.")
