VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 5-CENT BUFF IS ONE OF THE RAREST STAMPS OF THE 1861 ISSUE WITH ORIGINAL GUM. THIS EXAMPLE WITH MINOR FLAWS IS IN BETTER CONDITION THAN NORMALLY SEEN FOR UNUSED EXAMPLES.

This is one of the most difficult issues to obtain in unused condition. With 2024 P.F. certificate.

5c Buff, Brown Yellow, Red Brown, Brown (67, 67a, 75-76, 95). Large and impressive assemblage of 5c 1861-68 stamps, including eleven singles and a pair of No. 67 or 67a, seven singles of No. 75, more than a dozen singles of No. 76 plus a strip of three and a pair on piece, one No. 95, nice range of cancels including a number with red or blue, many with attractive centering including some of the No. 67s, small faults to be expected but none are truly defective, overall Fine-Very Fine appearing group, rarely does one see this many 5c Buff and Brown Yellow stamps together, Scott value exceeds $17,000

30c Orange (71). Beautiful full strike Union Soldier's Head fancy cancel of New York City (Skinner-Eno PH-F 72), every detail clear and struck completely within the borders of the stamp, which has bright color, tiny sealed tear at top
EXTREMELY FINE STRIKE OF THIS ICONIC CIVIL-WAR ERA FANCY CANCEL. ONE OF THE FINEST WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.
The creation and use of this fancy cancel in the Spring of 1866 coincided with the return of soldiers from the Civil War. It is known on at least one domestic cover, but apparently the cancelling device migrated to the foreign-mail exchange office, where it was used to cancel stamps on mail to foreign countries, as was most likely the case with this stamp.

Collection of more than 55 stamps, all used and off cover except four stamps on one partial cover and four more on a piece, the attraction of this group is the wide range of cancels with a number fancy, including "U.S." in circle of stars, other stars, various geometrics, French transit, foreign mail, cogwheels, colored including a number red or blue and others, condition is mostly decent with some faults to be expected, overall an impressive collection with wonderfully diverse cancels, Scott value as all normal used stamps without any cancel premiums exceeds $13,000
90c Blue (72). Original gum, lightly hinged, deep rich color, centered to top left but perfs are clear on both those sides, fresh and Fine, an attractive original-gum example of the 90c 1861 Issue, with 1999 P.S.E. certificate

With 1982 P.F. and 2004 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo). Only three grade higher (two at 98, one at 98J) and no others share this grade.
