Dead Letter Office, Honolulu, H.I., Nov. 2, 1897. Clear frameless rectangular datestamp, struck upon release of locally addressed 1c Red on Buff Postal Card (UX5), originated with "Honolulu H.I. Jun. 18, 1897 9AM" duplex datestamp, went unclaimed and struck with "Honolulu * Advertised * Jul. 31, 1897" circular datestamp, "Unclaimed/Non reclame" two-line handstamp and "Return to Writer" pointing hand, back of card with printing in Hawaiian, Very Fine and scarce Honolulu Dead Letter Office markings from the Hawaiian Republic period, this card went unclaimed exactly one year after the card offered in the previous lot and nicely shows the transition of DLO markings from 1896-97, illustrated in and accompanied by a 1993 article from The Texas Philatelist discussing these covers
