California Letter Express Co. (Hoogs & Madison), San Francisco, Black Printed Frank. Four-line inscription and "PAID" handstamp, unaddressed, Very Fine, this is the only recorded example of this style printed frank -- a small number of private posts operated in San Francisco during the 1862 to 1867 period, including Frey's Valentine Express, Appleton's Valentine Express, Hoogs & Madison, Robinson & Co., George A. Carnes, William E.
