Sale 1297, Lot 62, 1851-56 Issue (Scott 5-17)

12c Black (17). Enormous margins all around including parts of four adjoining stamps, bright shade and crisp impression, light strike of blue circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1851 ISSUE, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E.

The 12c 1851 plate was laid down with very little room between stamps — just barely one millimeter to be exact. For this reason, collectors have a difficult time finding stamps with large margins all around. The example offered here, lightly cancelled by a blue datestamp and graded 98 Jumbo by P.S.E., is a truly rare stamp.

With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo). Only four grade higher.
