Sale 1310, Lot 252, 1875 Re-Issue of 1869 Pictorial Issue (Scott 123-133a)

6c Blue, Re-Issue (126). Deep rich color on bright paper, choice centering, neat strike of Boston oval cancel

EXTREMELY FINE. an exceptional USED EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE.

The 6c is one of the rarest of the 1869 Pictorial Re-Issues in used condition. SMQ estimates that approximately 30 exist, and our own informal count concurs. Most are either off-center or have flaws. This choice stamp is certainly the finest of the used population.

Ex Gorham. With 2000 P.F. and 2022 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90). Only two used examples grade higher—at 95 and 98. We have offered both of those stamps and feel that this 90 compares favorably.
