Sale 1315, Lot 5092, 1851-56 Issue

12c Black (17). Enormous even margins all around including part of right sheet margin and parts or traces of four surrounding stamps, deep shade and lightly cancelled by blue circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SPECTACULAR LARGE-MARGINED USED EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1851 ISSUE, CANCELLED IN BLUE AND GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E.

While Superb 98 is an exceptionally high grade for any 12c 1851 Issue, frankly we are surprised this stamp did not earn the P.S.E. "Jumbo" appellation, which would have increased its SMQ value from $2,750.00 to $4,000.00. Considering the width of the margins, the buyer of this stamp will acquire a true Jumbo example without factoring the P.S.E. premium for Jumbo into the equation.

Ex Caspary (where it realized $280) and "European Connoisseur". With 2015 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98)
