Sale 1320, Lot 1194, 1851-56 Issue (Scott 7-17)

12c Black (17). Huge margins all around including part of right sheet margin and parts or traces of four surrounding stamps, crisp shade and lightly cancelled by town circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT USED EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1851 ISSUE, GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E.

While Superb 98 is an exceptionally high grade for any 12c 1851 Issue, frankly we are surprised this stamp did not earn the P.S.E. "Jumbo" appellation, which would have increased its SMQ value from $2,750 to $4,000. Considering the width of the margins, the buyer of this stamp will acquire a true Jumbo example without factoring the P.S.E. premium for Jumbo into the equation.

Ex "European Connoisseur". With 2015 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98).
