Sale 1367, Lot 53, 1870-88 Bank Note Issues (Scott 138-229)

2c Brown (157). Original gum, near perfect centering with wide and balanced margins, intense color

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1873 2-CENT CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE ISSUE.

From the Nathanael Greene collection. With 2000 P.F. and 2024 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95). This is a surprisingly difficult issue to find in original-gum condition in the highest grades. Only four grade higher—they are all 95 centering but with Jumbo appellations (95J). Only three others share this 95 grade.
